Island Storytellers Constitution

CONSTITUTION

Name

The name of the association is The Island Storytellers

Aims and Objectives of the Island Storytellers

1 To develop oral storytelling on the Isle of Wight

2 To encourage participation in storytelling activities in all ages, abilities and cultural groups

3 To increase public awareness of the art, practice and value of storytelling and the narrative traditions of the peoples and cultures of the world

In furtherance of this the Management Committee may endeavour to:

1 Run a monthly storyclub that provides a forum for anyone to tell stories.

2 Organise storytelling festivals to include workshops and performances by Isle of Wight, nationally and internationally renowned storytellers in a selection of venues across the Island

3 Organise and promote occasional storytelling events throughout the year.

Membership

  1. Membership shall be open to any person interested in furthering the object of the association and who has paid the annual subscription laid down by the Management Committee.

  2. Each adult member (over the age of 18) shall have one vote at the AGM

  3. The Management Committee may by majority vote and for good reason terminate the membership of an individual; provided that the individual concerned shall have an opportunity to be heard by the Management Committee, with a representative, before the final decision is made.

The Management Committee

  1. The Management committee shall be elected at the AGM.

  2. The Management Committee shall then appoint from themselves the posts of chairperson, secretary, treasurer, and other posts. Where more than one member of the Management Committee has offered to take a post, a secret ballot shall be held.

  3. All the members of the Management Committee shall retire from the Committee together at the end of the AGM next after they came into office but they may be re elected and re appointed.

  4. There shall be minutes kept of all committee meetings. These will be made available to all members of the association.

Receipts and expenditure

  1. The funds of the Association shall be paid into a bank account operated by the Management Committee in the name of the association. All cheques drawn on that account must be signed by at least two members of the Management Committee

  2. The funds belonging to the association shall be used only in furthering the objects of the association

Accounts

  1. The association shall keep accounting records of an income and expenditure form.

  2. The treasurer will provide an annual statement of accounts at each AGM and report to each Management committee meeting as to the state of funds

  3. The accounts will be audited annually.

Annual General Meeting

  1. There shall be an AGM of the association which will be held in the month of February each year or as soon as is practical thereafter.

  2. Every AGM will be called by the Management Committee with at least 21 days notice to all members

  3. All adults members shall be entitled to vote and attend the meeting

  4. The Management Committee shall present the reports and accounts of the association for the proceeding year.

  5. The AGM shall be chaired by the outgoing chairperson

  6. The outgoing minutes secretary shall make a true record of the meeting

  7. There shall be a quorum of at least one fifth of voting members present at the meeting.

Dissolution of the organisation

If the Management Committee decides that it is necessary or advisable to dissolve the association it shall call a meeting of all members of the association, of which not less than 21 days notice shall be given. If the proposal is agreed by not less than two thirds of the members present, in an extraordinary vote, then the Management Committee will have powers to realise the assests of the association. Any assets remaining after the satisfaction of proper debts and liabilities shall be given or transferred to such other charitable institution having objects similar to the objects of the association. The association may then be dissolved
